Brussels, 09/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - Aspartame, the artificial sweetener used in some diets is safe. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) reached this conclusion on 5 May, following a new scientific assessment on the carcinogenic effects of this synthesised sugar, analysed in a long term study carried out by the European Ramazzini Foundation (based in Bologna, Italy).
