Industrial production stable in both zones

Brussels, 27/04/2006 (Agence Europe) - In February 2006, industrial production remained stable in the euro zone and in the EU of 25 alike, compared to January, when it increased by 0.2% in both zones. Compared to February 2005, industrial production increased by 3.2% in the euro zone and by 2.9% in the EU of 25. In February 2006, compared to February 2005, investment goods increased by 5.8% in both the euro zone and the EU of 25. Taken annually, the energy sector increased by 2.8% and 1.3% respectively. Consumer durable goods rose by 2.7% in the euro zone and by 3.7% in the EU of 25, and non-durable consumer goods by 2.2% in both zones. Intermediates grew by 2.2% in the euro zone and by 1.8% in the EU of 25. In February 2006, and in the Member States for which data are available, industrial production grew in 17 Member States and receded in six. The greatest increases were recorded in the Czech Republic and Lithuania (+ 11.8% each), Hungary (+ 11.6%), Luxembourg and Poland (+ 10.1% each), whilst the greatest reductions were observed in Ireland (-5.3%) Greece (-1.7%), Portugal and the United Kingdom (-1.4% each).
