27/04/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 25 April, the EU Council of Ministers adopted without debate a decision authorising the European Commission to negotiate agreements on the guaranteed prices applicable in the 2006/2007 delivery period to cane sugar from ACP states and India. Under the Sugar Protocol to the ACP-EC Partnership Agreement and the EEC-India Cane Sugar Agreement, the EU pledges to purchase and import quantities of sugar at guaranteed prices. The guaranteed prices apply to white and raw cane sugar in accordance with the reference prices fixed for marketing year 2006/2007 (EUR 631.9 euros a tonne for white sugar and EUR 496.8 euros per tonne for raw cane sugar).
