06/04/2006 (Agence Europe) - In February 2006, compared to February 2005, the volume of retail trade1 grew by 1.0% in the Euro-zone and by 1.8% in the EU25. Retail trade of “food, drinks and tobacco” decreased by 0.5% in the Euro-zone but increased by 0.7% in the EU25. The non-food sector rose by 2.2% and 2.8% respectively. Total retail trade grew in Latvia (+15.1%), Estonia (+12.0%), Luxembourg (+9.1%), Lithuania (+7.9%), Sweden (+7.8%), Slovakia (+6.8%), Poland (+6.7%), Denmark (+5.6%), Finland (+4.1%), Portugal (+2.9%), Austria (+2.5%), the United Kingdom (+1.9%), France (+1.7%), Germany (+1.2%) and Spain (+0.1%), fall in Belgium (-5.1%). February 2006, compared to January 2006, “food, drinks and tobacco” fell by 0.7% in the Euro-zone, stable in EU25. The non food sector increased by 0.2% and 0.4% respectively. Total retail trade rose in Luxembourg (+3.2%), Slovakia (+1.9%), Latvia and Poland (both +1.0%), Denmark (+0.8%), Spain (+0.7%), France and the United Kingdom (both +0.4%), Sweden (+0.2%), Estonia and Lithuania (both +0.1%), while falls were recorded in Finland (-1.1%), Belgium (-0.7%), Germany (-0.6%), Portugal (-0.5%) and Austria (-0.3%).
