14/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has organised a seminar on combating fraud and counterfeiting of non-cash payments in Brussels on 8 and 9 March. Around one hundred representatives of the banking sector, local authorities, administrations in charge of monitoring on the ground, and consumer organisations from Bulgaria, Romania, the former Yugoslav countries and Turkey have agreed that improved cooperation between the market players and public authorities is one of the cornerstones for combating this kind of fraud. Other European-wide formations will be held and the creation of centralised units within these Member States has been contemplated. The seminar is part of the specific 2004-2007 plan launched by the Commission (see EUROPE 8814).
