Brussels, 22/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - CFSP High Representative Javier Solana indicated in a press release after a Quartet video-conference on the Middle East peace process on 20 February that “we are going to have a meeting, a telephone conversation or a video-conference…to follow the situation on the ground…until the new government is formed (Israeli). It could take two months, may be more, to form a new government”. We are trying to find the necessary resources to do that, it is not easy to find resources but the European Union is going to provide as much as possible; the World Bank, through the Trust Fund, is probably going to open the way to allow for cooperation with the Palestinian Authority and we hope we will have enough money to sustain the Palestinian Authority at least until a new government is formed”. Mr Solana added that, “we will continue, with no time limit, to support the Palestinian people…I said in public in Ramallah” (EUROPE 9134 on Israeli decision to suspend payments to Palestinians).
