16/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - CDU MEP Werner Langen welcomed the “brilliant choice” of Finance Ministers in proposing Jürgen Stark for membership of the European Central Bank (ECB) Board of Directors. On 14 February, the Ecofin Council recommended to the European Council that the current Vice-President of the Bundesbank replace his compatriot Otmar Issing from 1st June. Just like Eurogroupe President Jean-Claude Juncker, Mr Langen rejected all criticisms of the way posts are distributed among the major economies of the euro-zone within the Board of Directors. “National or regional considerations do not come into it,” since only candidates' experience in financial policy and promotion of financial stability that matter, he said.
