Strasbourg, 19/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption, on Wednesday, of a resolution on Afghanistan, the European Parliament welcomed the determination of the Afghan people to commit themselves along the road to peace and democracy. MEPs praised the extraordinarily successful presidential elections of October 2004 and the legislative and provincial elections of September 2005 but deplore the death of eight candidates and other persons during the process.
