16/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 16 January, the day before the international donors' conference opens in Beijing, European Health Commissioner Markos Kyprianou called for better coordination at world level to face up to the spread of avian flu and to the possibility of a human flu pandemic (see EUROPE 9109). The Commission was entrusted with the task of preparing a study on the possibility of forming a joint stock of anti-viral medicines to be ready by June at the latest. Furthermore, Turkey's health authorities have confirmed the death of a fourth person (a girl of 12) contaminated by the virus. Out of the 20 persons contaminated (including the four who have now died), eleven are currently being treated and five have left the hospital cured.
