15/12/2005 (Agence Europe) - In plenary on 13 December, the European Parliament endorsed the agreement hammered out with the Council and Commission at talks on 30 November on the directive on energy efficiency for end users and energy services (see Europe 9083). Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs welcomed the adoption of Mechtild Rothe's report (German PES) which would, he said, help the EU save energy and cut its dependence on oil. He urged Member States to implement the new rules asap.
