09/12/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Association for Mountainous Areas (Euromontana) on 7 December at the European Parliament in Brussels with the support of the President of the EP agriculture committee Joseph Daul launched the European Charter for Mountain Quality Food Products. The Charter has two objectives: (1) economic development through better identification of these products, avoiding damaging counterfeiting; (2) political recognition and acknowledgement of the role of farmers and food companies in mountain areas. The Charter translates the will of its signatories to assess, protect and promote quality mountain products to contribute to the sustainable development of the economy and territory in the mountainous areas of Europe.
