Brussels, 24/11/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 23 November, the European Commission received endorsement from the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (SCFCAH) for a number of measures relating to bird flu. As far as Turkey and Croatia are concerned, the embargos set in place following an outbreak of bird flu will be regionalised after very strict control measures set up in both these countries. The ban on live poultry imports will continue to be applied to the whole of Romanian territory but Romania may also benefit from a regionalised approach for poultry meat and poultry products. Measures applying to the different regions of the Russian Federation have been renewed. The same is true for biosafety measures in the Union, set in place to protect domestic poultry farms and which will apply until 31 May 2006.
