Brussels, 21/11/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Commissioner in charge of Regional Policy, Danuta Hübner, is to meet the French ministers Catherine Colonna for European affairs and Catherine Vautrin for social cohesion and equality in Paris on 22 November, to discuss issues such as the problem of urban violence in France and the redirection of money not yet spent in France, under the URBAN programme, but available until 2006. These meetings will prepare for the meeting to be held in Paris on 24 November between the competent services in the European Commission and the French authorities with responsibility for regional programmes, announced Ana-Paula Laissy, spokesperson to Ms Hübner. These services held an initial meeting on the issue in Paris on 17 November, further to the proposal by President Barroso to Prime Minister de Villepin on the rehabilitation of areas affected by urban violence in France (EUROPE 9067). This first meeting failed to reach a conclusion, and served to begin an inventory of the situation in the French suburbs and possible courses of action, as well as "clarification and exchanges of information", explained Ms Laissy.
