18/11/2005 (Agence Europe) - “The traffic in human beings: the most shocking of Human Rights violations”: this is the theme of the Women's Forum, which will be held on 19 November in Edinburgh. MEP Ana Maria Gomes (PSE, Portugal) will chair the meeting, which will ask the following questions: (1) how can we better protect and help women and girls from Africa, Asia and Latin America who are victims of traffickers? (2) how can we take legal action against traffickers and do away with the traffic in human beings? By way of a reminder, around 80% of the 600 000 to 800 000 victims of trafficking in human begins are women or girls, the majority of whom are also victims of exploitation in the sex trade.
