19/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 17 October, the European Commission adopted a draft Council Regulation repealing Regulation 3690/93 (EC) establishing a Community system laying down rules for the minimum information to be contained in fishing licences. The system is out of date, following the 2002 decisions on reforming the Common Fisheries Policy, and will be replaced by new measures decided by the Commission in August this year on agreement with EU Member States. The measures were published in Official Journal L203 on 4 August 2005. They come into force on the day Regulation 3690/93 is repealed. The new rules aim to encourage Member States to ensure fishing licences give up-to-date, clear, unambiguous and accurate information.
