07/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Greens at the EP have welcomed Monday's External Relations Council's measured reaction to the Colombian government's paramilitary demobilisation plans (see EUROPE 9041). In a press release, Alain Lipietz said he was delighted the Council conclusions mentioned all the criticisms made by the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights and the Council had taken note of the Justice and Peace law in Colombia by pointing out that the legal framework to the paramilitary demobilisation and reintegration process had to take account of victims' entitlement to the truth, justice and compensation. He welcomed the fact the EU was not going to provide the aid requested by the Colombian government but would support existing victim support programmes by providing aid for demobilising child soldiers in cooperation with UNICEF.
