Inauguration of European legal training centre - communication imminent on legal training in EU

Brussels, 29/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday in Brussels, Franco Frattini, European Commission vice president in charge of Justice, Freedom and Security, took part in the inauguration of the centre for the European Legal Training Network (ELTN). The Commission welcomed this initiative declaring that “quality legal training is in the interest of the construction of the Freedom, Security and Justice Area”. Frattini asserted that he wanted to engage in “pro-active dialogue with the ELTN” as “legal training is a Commission priority”. In the context of up and coming dates, the action plan to implement the Hague programme (EUROPE 8944) is planning on the adoption at the end of 2005 of a communication on legal training in the EU. Mr Frattini added that the communication's main objective is to carry out “an inventory of the current situation regarding legal training, while highlighting the need to develop a coherent strategy on the subject”. The ELTN is expected to participate in the experts' meeting planned on 5 October to examine this communication.
