26/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - A workshop/debate on the influence of pricing policies in public transport on the behaviour of passengers will be held on 30 September at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels, attended by Pascal Smet, Minister for Mobility in Belgium, and Kris Lauwers, Director General of MIVB/STIB, the body responsible for public transport in the Brussels area. Researchers will be presenting a study on the social, economic and spatial effects of free public transport policies have on the behaviour of students in Brussels. This presentation will serve as a point of departure for a comparison between the pricing policies in public transport at European level, and a debate on the effectiveness of making public transport free to modify user behaviour.
