28/07/2005 (Agence Europe) - Benita Ferrero-Waldner, European External Relations and Neighbourhood Policy Commissioner, firmly condemned on Wednesday the assassination in Iraq of Ali Belaroussi and his colleague, Azzedine Belkadi, the two Algerian diplomats kidnapped last week. “Such acts cannot lead to a better future in Iraq. Only democratic solutions will bring justice for all the Iraqi communities”, she says in a press release. She goes on to add: “The authors of this kind of unjustified action must understand that they will not prevent the international community from supporting the Iraqis and strengthening links with them”. Javier Solana, High Representative for CFSP, was also very condemning of these murders. In a message of sympathy addressed to the Algerian president, he expressed his deep indignation and presented his sincere condolences to the “families, government and people of Algeria”.
