28/07/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Association for Human Rights (AEDH), which is an umbrella group for associations for the defence of human rights from 16 Member States of the EU, has voiced its concern about "security excesses". The organisation spoke out against the death of the young Brazilian who was shot by police in London last week and fears that the "'shoot to kill' order given to the British armed police against presumed suicide bombers" is "not a proportionate measure and could lead to many other inexcusable accidents". The Federation of Young European Federalists (JEF) has called for the European Union to reinforce co-operation and exchanges of information, but "not to lose sight of its values and principles" in the fight against terrorism.
