08/07/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Sunday 10 July and Monday 11 July, in Brussels, the 2005 Descartes Prize will be formally launched to award work by one or several research teams this year. The European prize, which will be attributed by a large panel of judges, is awarded each year by the European Commissioner for Research. On Sunday, the debate will cover the life and work of Descartes, notably with Professor Dominique Lecourt from University Paris VII. On Monday, Michel Claessens of the DG Research at the European Commission will hold an open discussion on the way Europeans perceive science and technology, on the basis of a Eurobarometer survey. These activities comes within the framework of the projects financed by the framework programme under the title “Science and Society”. It is to be noted that the last call for proposals in the field of communication - within the 6th framework programme - had an allocation of EUR 1.6 million. Cordis states the call will be closed on 25 October 2005.
