04/07/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Turkish Prime Minister, Tayyip Erdogan, has invited his Greek opposite number, Costas Caramanlis, to an " historical " official visit to Ankara, which is set to take place before 3 October- the date earmarked for the opening of Turkey's accession negotiations to the EU. The last time a Greek Head of Government visited Ankara was in 1959 (this was during the days of Constantin Caramanlis, the uncle of the current leader of the Greek government). At the border between Greece and Turkey on Sunday, Mr Erdogan and Mr Caramanlis jointly launched the construction of a gas pipeline which, after its planned completion in 2006, will carry gas from Azerbaijan and other regions of the Caucasus to Europe through Greece and probably Italy.
