04/07/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 27 June the Council approved a draft decision from the Joint Committee for the European Economic Area (EEA) amending the EEA agreement and adding new Community acquis to it on energy (9277/05). Reference values concerning the electricity produced by renewable sources in the net consumption of electricity in 2010 have been set out for Norway and Iceland. This decision also includes a derogation on Liechtenstein, as this country imports almost 75% of its electricity from Switzerland. The Joint EEA Committee has to integrate all relevant Community legislation in the EEA agreement in order to ensure security and legal approximation necessary for the internal market.
