Brussels, 24/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Regione Veneto is holding a workshop on 28 and 29 June in Brussels in conjunction with the European Commission on the theme The European Health Insurance Card one year after its introduction. Among the participants will be the European Social Affairs Commissioner Vladimir Spidla, the Italian under-secretary for Health Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, the head of social policy for the Veneto region Antonio De Poli, the president of the EHTEL (European Health Telematic Association) Mats Larson and Brian Edwards, the vice-president of the HOPE (Standing Committee of the Hospitals of the EU). A press release indicates that among the themes dealt with will figure the role of the Member States in the distribution of cards and reorganisation of their health services, and the mobility of patients. The press release states that from this summer no fewer than 50 million cards should be in circulation, and the Czech Republic is leading the way, having distributed a health insurance card to every person with insurance.
