21/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - In response to press questions, on Tuesday in Parma (see other article) on the subject of excessive deficit procedure possibly being opened against Italy, President Barroso (flanked by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi) pointed out that the Commission may make a recommendation on 29 June on the basis of revised Stability Pact rules, allowing “some flexibility”. He added that he hoped Italy would use it to correct its deficit.
