Brussels, 21/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday prime minister Jean-Claude Juncker declared, “the world will be watching Luxembourg on 10 July” (date for referendum on European Constitution: EUROPE 8973). He was addressing the Luxembourg parliament at the time and added that “I am confident that Luxembourg will again make the right choice: yes for Europe, yes for the country, yes to harmony between us”.
Johannes Voggenhuber said, “my compliments to Jean-Claude Juncker, the government and Luxembourg parliament for their courage”. According to the Austrian Green, “the referendum in Luxembourg could mark a turning point in public opinion” and provide an occasion for voters to vote on a political Europe. The European Youth Federation (EYF) also recognised in a press release that these were “difficult times for holding a referendum” and the decision to hold one was “brave”. EYF pointed out that it has supported the Constitution “since the beginning” and announced that it would be mobilising to help in the “yes” campaign in Luxembourg.
