10/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Spanish telecommunications operator Telefonica has been authorised by the Commission to acquire the traditional Czech fixed telecom operator, Cesky Telecom. The activities of both companies do not overlap at horizontal level, the Commission noted. It does not have any serious concerns about vertical competition on the Spanish and Czech markets for international itinerance markets in fixed or mobile telecommunications. Furthermore, Eurotel, the mobile telecom subsidiary of Cesky Telecom, will be able to join the international alliance for the provision of high-tech mobile telecom services, FreeMove, despite the presence of another Czech mobile telephony operator, T-Mobile, the Commission says.
