Conference on high definition television in Europe

Brussels, 30/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - In Luxembourg on 7 June, the Luxembourg Presidency is organising a conference on high definition television (HDTV), which has the benefit of providing exceptionally clear images. HDTV will set new standards in the world's most advanced audiovisual markets and is already widely used in US, Canadian, Australian, Korean and Japanese households. The fall of HDTV compatible screens should stimulate private demand in Europe, where analysts predict that between 13 and 17 million European households may own HDTVs by 2008. The Luxembourg Presidency points out that the conference is a first and they hoped it would be the first of a series of initiatives to stimulate cooperation, later extending to regions outside Europe. The conference will be attended by some 100 representatives of governments of the 25 Member States and 300 captains of industry. The Luxembourg Presidency hopes the debates may lead to European-scale HDTV initiatives. (Info: http: //http://www.tvhd.eu2005.lu )
