Peter Mandelson hopes to avoid hasty decision on implementing safeguard measures

Brussels, 09/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - After a meeting in Paris last Thursday with the Chinese trade minister Bo Xilai, the Commissioner for Trade Peter Mandelson repeated that he would rather not “take a hasty decision” to tackle the massive influx of Chinese textile products on the Community market. “There is too much at stake for economic and trade relations between Europe and China in the long run to allow the textiles issue to undermine our strategic and commercial partnership”,...
