BNP PARIBAS is on the point of two purchases. It is to acquire, via its subsidiary BNP PARIBAS PRIVATE BANK DE NACHENIUS, the Dutch private bank TJEENK & CO, currently a subsidiary of ABN AMRO. With over 1.3 billion EUR managed on behalf of wealthy individuals, associations and foundations, TJEENK & CO (60 employees) is the country's 8th-largest bank. The French bank is also in exclusive negotiations with CALYON, subsidiary of CREDIT AGRICOLE, to buy its brokerage subsidiary CREDIT AGRICOLE SECURITIES JAPAN. CREDIT AGRICOLE, furthermore, is in exclusive negotiations with the small Serbia retail bank MERIDIAN BANK (2.1 million EUR in turnover with a balance sheet total of 31.4 million EUR, 560 employees and 30,000 clients) with a view to taking over 71% of its capital.
