Brussels, 12/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday the Commission adopted two decisions on national greenhouse gas emission quotas in directive 2003/87/EC set out on 1 January as part of the European CO2 emissions market putting forward implementation of the Kyoto Protocol. The commission gave an unconditional green light to the Czech Republic, which covers 436 installations, and all installations qualify for trading. They will be allocated 292.8 million allowances (covering 292.8 million tonnes of CO2) for the 2005-2007 trading period. It comes as no surprise that the Commission on the other hand rejected the United Kingdom's request to revise the Commission's initial decision to benefit from more quotas ((756 million instead of the 736 million approved last July). The United Kingdom has now announced that it will go to the Court of Justice.
