Greek minister Avramopoulos at new Delhi summit

Brussels, 07/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Fifth Global Travel and Tourism Summit will take place on 8-10 April in New Delhi and will be opened by Indian president Abdul Kalam. A press release from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) indicated that tourism ministers present will include Renuka Chowdhury from India, Dimitris Avramopoulos from Greece and Ahmed El Maghraby from Egypt. Senior managers from the main travel agencies, hotel organisations, as well as organisation such as VISA will also be widely represented in New Delhi.

The press release points out that the tourism industry currently employs more than 200 million in the world and produces more than 10% of world GDP. Themes for discussion will include: the economic impact of the tsunami, which devastated part of Asia in December 2004; What is the best way for the industry to communicate in the face of a crisis?; What new experiences and technologies will revolutionise the way we travel?; What must be done to ensure Travel and Tourism realises its full potential for social and economic good?; What markets will be most active?; How to develop tourism in China and India, (Info: Olivia@wttc.org).
