Brussels, 22/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, Greece sent the Commission its updated stability programme, laying out the detailed measures it intends to take in 2006 to bring its deficit below 3% next year, the spokesperson to the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, Joaquin Almunia, confirmed on Monday. Athens is thus responding to the expectations of the Commission and the Council, who sent a request to monitor the necessary adjustment with regular reports along with their letter of formal notice (EUROPE of 18 February, p.8 and of 10 February). The first report was due on 21 March at the latest and the others, to take stock of progress made, are expected for 30 October 2005, 30 April 2006 and 31 October 2006. The Commission will look at the report and take position on the stability programme “on 6 April in theory”, the spokesperson added.
