16/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - At its March plenary session, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) adopted an opinion on “The social dimension of globalisation- How the EU's policy helps to extend the advantages to all” (rapporteur Thomas Etty, Workers' group, Netherlands; Co-rapporteur Renate Hornung-Draus, employers' group, Germany). In a press release, the EESC: -stresses the need for an approach to globalisation based on the values which make up the essence of a market economy, such as personal responsibility, respect for the law, people and private property, transparency, equality and liberty, fundamental rights of unions and workers, access to education, healthy industrial relations and a high level of social protection.
