Brussels, 28/02/2005 (Agence Europe) - After an increase of 0.2 points- to 2.4%- in December 2004, the rate of inflation in the euro zone fell back to 1.9% in January 2005, the same level as for the same month in 2004. In the EU of 25, the annual inflation rate was 2%, against 2.4% in January 2005 and 1.9% in January 2004. In monthly terms, the inflation rate was -0.6% in January in the euro zone and -.05% in the EU25. Taken annually, the lowest annual rhythms were those of Finland (-0.2%), Sweden (+0.5%), Denmark (+0.8%) and the Netherlands (+1.3%), and the highest those of Latvia (+6.7%), Estonia and Greece (+4.2% apiece) and Hungary (+3.9%). The highest annual increases were in alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.5%) and housing (3.7%), and the lowest in communications (-2.4%) and food products (-.01%). Tobacco (+0.25 percentage point), transport fuels (+0.16) and liquid fuels (+0.12) saw the largest upwards impacts.
