21/02/2005 (Agence Europe) - MEPs Markus Ferber and Alexander Radwan are convinced that Germany is prepared to bargain between the reform of the Stability Pact and the financial perspectives 2007-2013. In a press release, the two CSU MEPs criticise the Schröder government for agreeing to “give up on his request for the future European budget to be capped at 1% of GNI, in return for the de facto abolition of the Pact” (see EUROPE of 17 February, p.6, on the statements made by Chancellor Schröder and page 7 on the proposals by Finance Minister Hans Eichel on the reform of the Pact). This will accentuate Germany's position as net contributor to the EU budget even further, they complained.
