10/02/2005 (Agence Europe) - Patrick Gaubert (EPP-ED, France), who had been tasked with drawing up a European Parliament own-initiative report on immigration and the integration of immigrants, spoke of “Europe and cacophony” on the subject of the decision by Spain to launch a massive process to reconcile the status of illegal immigrants (which could affect up to a million people: see EUROPE of 9 February, p.10). This issue cannot “be reconciled by changes by any one Member State with no fallout for the other countries of the Union” or third countries concerned, stressed the UMP MEP, who announces that in the report to be presented to the European Parliament, he will make proposals on legal and illegal immigration.
