Brussels, 10/02/2005 (Agence Europe) - Having been given the green light by the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health, on 9 February the European Commission formally adopted the regulations allowing screening for bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in goats to be stepped up for at least six months (for details see EUROPE of 4 February, p.10). These new rules, which are published in the Official Journal L37 of 10 February 2005, were drawn up following the first confirmed case of a goat affected by BSE. The regulation in question modifies Annex III of the 2001 regulation on monitoring transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) in goats.
