Brussels, 09/02/2005 (Agence Europe) - Mobile telephony has experienced enormous growth since 1995: between 1995 and 2003, the number of mobile phone subscriptions has grown 42% each year across the EU of 25, Eurostat indicates in a new study into telecommunications in Europe. In 2003, there were more than 364 million subscriptions in the EU25 compared to only 22 million in 1995, that is, an average of 80 subscriptions per 100 inhabitants in 2003, compared to only 5 in 1995.
