07/02/2005 (Agence Europe) - CFSP High Representative Javier Solana took part in the East West Institute conference on 7 February in Brussels on the them of “Protecting People and Infrastructure” against terrorism. Mr Solana pointed out what the European Union had done in this area, mention, “the collection and dissemination of information”. He explained that the EU's objective was to introduce measures for detecting false identities and that they were working on a visa information system that required cooperation between international organisations, such as that of the UN Anti-terrorist Committee at political and technical levels, as well as that of the International Civil Aviation Organisation and the International Maritime Organisation; technical assistance for developing legal systems and police forces in the Unions neighbouring and partner countries: the EU has planned on more than a billion euro for continuing help to new Member States in internal security over the period 2004-06.
