07/02/2005 (Agence Europe) - Presenting her report on nutritional and health indications to the committee on the environment of the EP, Adriana Poli Bortone (Union for the Europe of Nations, Italy) said that the text she put on the table should serve to reconcile the interests of industry and consumers. In a press release, the former Italian minister for agriculture said that her report “finally brings Commission and Council to agreement” and “protects the Mediterranean diet and healthy products such as olive oil”. We must “guarantee less fatty and healthier foods for our children”, she stressed, voicing the hope that “in Europe, it might still be possible not to reach American levels” of obesity.
