26/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - The four candidates for the post of Director General of the World Trade Organisation - Pascal Lamy (European candidate), Luiz-Felipe de Seixas Correa (Brazil), Jayen Cuttaree (Mauritius) and Carlos Perez del Castillo (Uruguay) - appeared on Wednesday in Geneva before the ambassadors of the 148 Member States to explain their programme and to answer questions. The successor to Supachai Panitchpakdi should be appointed by the end of May under the consensual procedure, each stage of which sees the withdrawal of the candidate(s) least likely to achieve a consensus. In the case of disagreement beyond 31 May, the Member States will vote.
