07/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Eurosystem, which includes the European Central Bank (ECB) and the national central banks in the euro zone, has adopted a common position for detection of counterfeit notes and the sorting of euro notes through credit establishments and other professionals who are called upon to handle cash on a regular basis (bureaux de change for example). This new general framework will apply by 2006 at the latest. It replaces that adopted on 18 April 2002 concerning the use of automatic deposit and recycling banks for notes.
