18/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - Trade Commissioner, Pascal Lamy, is not excluding the possibility of submitting his candidacy for the post of WTO Director General. He declared that he had not ruled the question out and had thought about it. He did state, however, on Thursday in an interview on the radio quoted by AFP, that he had not thought about it too much because it was both a tough job and a life changing decision. The current post of WTO director general is occupied by Supachai Panitchpakdi from Thailand but who will be leaving on 1 September 2005. His successor is expected to be appointed before 31 May 2005 and applications have to be in by 31 December 2004 at the latest.
