25/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - One of the challenges to be faced by Europe today is that of working in an enlarged Europe. But is this an advantage for competitiveness? Yes, EU enlargement can enhance its competitiveness, is the opinion expressed in unison by business leaders meeting at the Congress in Vienna. On the occasion of the panel organised at the Eurochambres Congress devoted to "Europe and Beyond", Alfonso Di Ianni of Oracle Corp. stressed how important it was to help SMEs but also to invest in access to the internet. Gary Litman (US Chamber of Commerce and vice-president of Europe & Eurasia) highlighted the "excellent quality of life in Europe" while calling for the Atlantic market to be safeguarded and for Europe not to be harmonised as "Differences must be preserved!". The Commissioner-designate for Regional Policy, Danuta Hubner, noted the differences between US and European economic policies and recalled the important of research for the future. Seizing the opportunity, Alfonso Di Ianni called for more means to be made available for universities especially in the ten new EU Member States.
