12/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - Paolo Costa (ALDE, Italy), president of the transport and tourism committee at the European Parliament announced that he was pleased that his committee planned to adopt a "legislative initiative report" on European tourism policy, the first of this kind, he explained in a press statement. This will involve measures for encouraging sustainable tourism and helping Europe to continue to be the number one tourist destination in the world in the future, affirmed the Margherita MEP. Mr Costa, has recently had contacts with ministers interested in this initiative, such as Karim Ghellab from Morocco and Marek Szczepanski from Poland, to discuss prospects for European tourism in the enlarged Europe of 25 Member States and linked to third countries throughout the Mediterranean.
