Brussels, 28/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - After Chile (EUROPE of 22 September), Georgia has initialled a horizontal air agreement with the European Commission after negotiations held on 21 and 22 September in Tbilissi. Here again, the aim is not to replace existing bilateral agreements between the EU and Georgia but to bring them into line with Community law by putting an end to the discriminatory provisions that do not authorise European companies to fly to Georgia unless they leave from their countries of origin. Once signed and implemented, the agreement will allow any European airline to have access to the Georgian market from any Member State. The agreement with Georgia is the first of its kind signed between the EU and a State belonging to the Community of Independent States (CIS).
