Jan Peter Balkenende and Atzo Nicolaï on visit to Nicosia

Brussels, 31/08/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Dutch Secretary of State for European Affairs, Atzo Nicolaï, is to visit Nicosia on 1 September on behalf of the EU Council Presidency. While there, he will meet President Papadoupolos, Foreign Minister Iacovou and representatives of the political parties, the UN and the Turkish Cypriot community. In addition to a vast European agenda, points on the agenda include specific regulations concerning trade and aid to the Turkish Cypriot community. Furthermore, the Greek press agency ANA points out that the spokesman for the Cypriot government, Kypros Chrysostomides, has announced an official two-day visit by the President-in-Office of the European Council, Jan Peter Balkenende. The Dutch Prime Minister will be in Nicosia on 6 and 7 September, where he will meet, among others, President Tassos Papadoupoulos and Demetris Christofias, President of the House of Representatives.
