31/08/2004 (Agence Europe) - The President of the European Parliament, Josep Borrell, has appealed "on behalf of the whole Parliament and of the peoples that it represents" for the release of French journalists Christian Chesnot and Georges Malbrunot, who were taken hostage in Iraq by the same terrorist group that assassinated the Italian journalist, Enzo Baldoni, just last week. "Like their Italian colleague who has already paid with his life for his passion of bringing information to the world", these two journalists "are endeavouring, in the very worst conditions, to give European citizens their vision of the situation in Iraq", Mr Borrel said in a declaration. He went on to insist: "Whatever its origin, terrorism has only one aim: to kill freedom of expression and freedom of thought. Democracies must fight against this".
