25/08/2004 (Agence Europe) - Rapporteurs for the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on political and humanitarian aspects to the situation in Chechnya sent a delegation to the region on 23-27 August. This body will present its reports to the Assembly's session on 4-8 October in Strasbourg. Swiss Socialist Andreas Gross is the rapporteur on the political situation and Polish Socialist Tadeusz Iwinsky is rapporteur on the humanitarian situation for displaced persons. During the same session, German Social Democrat Rudolf Bindig will present a report on the human rights situation in the country. A press statement explained that the Council of Europe delegation will meet the Acting President of the Chechen Republic, Sergy Abramov, candidates for the presidential election on 29 August, president of the Republic of Inguchia, Murat Zyazikov and representatives from the Chechen authorities and NGOs.
